How To Train Your Dragon

Image
The Film Trilogy - I didn't watch a single piece of content from this franchise until I watched the film trilogy recently. I must say, they were all enjoyable experiences. The music was nothing short of breathtaking in each film, and the animation was truly art. The world building was well done and fascinating and added on with every movie. And Hiccup is a definitely hero of the generation that grew up with these films.  How To Train Your Dragon (2010) "A hapless young Viking who aspires to hunt dragons becomes the unlikely friend of a young dragon himself, and learns there may be more to the creatures than he assumed." - IMDB Synopsis IMDB.com I might be the only one that picked up on this, but I noticed an analogy for foster pets. Yeah, Toothless was a wild animal and Hiccup was taming him, but when you hear stories of dog parents who rescued dogs from a traumatic environment, they all follow their own path of gaining trust with that animal. Rescue dogs require a lot of

Die Hard (1988)

IMDB.com "An NYPD officer tries to save his wife and several others taken hostage by German terrorists during a Christmas party at the Nakatomi Plaza in Los Angeles." - IMDB Synopsis Most 80s action films set the standard for how all action movies should be, and Die Hard is one of those films that made it so. It had action, violence, comedy, explosions, great fights, and an intriguing villain. Die Hard is the definition of a perfect action blockbuster. With a fun story, fun adventure, and a great cast, this would be my top recommendation for anyone in for a thrill and a good time.  In my experience with iconic movies, The more quotable a movie is, the better. This movie runs on iconic quotes and one liners. For example: Come out to the coast, we'll get together, have a few laughs... Do you really think you have a chance against us, Mr. Cowboy?                Yippee-ki-yay, motherf***er. Now I have a machine gun. Ho ho ho. Who said we were terrorists? Happy trails, Hans

13 Reasons Why - Season 1

Image
filmdaily.co "Follows teenager Clay Jensen, in his quest to uncover the story behind his classmate and crush, Hannah, and her decision to end her life." - IMDB Synopsis The story of Hannah Baker was what drew me to series to begin with. That being said, once her story was told, I had no interest to follow up on seasons 2-4 as I thought those seasons would just be a cash grab given the success of the first season; especially since season 1 was based off a book, so the following seasons have no source material and would probably not be as well written. Based on ratings of these episodes compared to the original 13 episodes, I might not be wrong. There are only 2 things I'd criticize - episode length and inconsistent acting. There was a moment in the season where someone asked Clay "why is it taking you so long to listen to the tapes." Honestly, I loved how the story was told, with each episode dedicated to a tape accompanied with flashbacks and Clay's processi

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory (2020)

Nintendo.com "Play as familiar faces from the KINGDOM HEARTS series, including Disney guest characters who will appear to lend you a hand. Enjoy a massive variety of music from both the KINGDOM HEARTS series and Disney, with a collection of over 140 songs. Dive into rhythm-action gameplay with memorable tunes in this can't-miss musical journey!" - Nintendo Synopsis This new title in the Kingdom Hearts franchise released about a month ago. As it's part of my favorite gaming franchise, I thought I'd state my opinions on it. I've never been one for rhythm games, but that didn't stop me from getting addicted to this one. Every time I play it, I still go into it with the notion that it's a dumb easy game, but it actually gets challenging. I've played both solo and co-op, and I have fun every time. If you're a fan of the ordinary Kingdom Hearts combat, and have a particular disdain of rhythm games, this installment isn't for you. But if you lov

Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)

Image
IMDB.com " An orphaned boy enrolls in a school of wizardry, where he learns the truth about himself, his family and the terrible evil that haunts the magical world . " - IMDB Synopsis Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone is the only film I can quote word for word. There is no way I can start a blog about films without talking about my favorite movie of all time.  This movie, this franchise, is so important to me for so many reasons, and I'm going to talk about the first chapter, when the boy who lived started his adventure. IMDB.com As a stand alone movie, this is actually really good. The pacing is great and the mystery of the Sorcerer's Stone is told really well. I've seen this movie my whole life so that twist at the end never phased me. But for a newcomer, the villain reveal really was a cool plot twist. What's done really well is how we are introduced to the magical world through Harry's eyes. We learn the culture & customs of this hidden w

About Hollis Films

Hollis Woods  The Entertainment Industry is my life.   All I ever talk about is movies, shows, video games, and all the people that are a part of them. So, I've decided to attempt making a blog dedicated to what I'm most obsessed with - entertainment. I have dabbled in writing reviews on IMDB , and this blog could be another outlet for those reviews. I could also talk about my favorite actors or other important people that work hard behind the scenes. I won't always talk about what's new & trending, as I'm always taking time to explore content from past generations. One post may be about the latest box office hit while the next will be about a cult classic film from the 1980s. Hollis Films is a variety site. Hollis Woods is a nickname a friend of mine gave me many moons ago, and I've used it as a way to unofficially brand myself on social media, which I'll link below. Feel free to follow.
