NOVEMBER WATCH PARTY - Freddy vs Jason (2003), Misery (1990), Little Miss Sunshine (2006)

A little late to the Halloween hype train as I've got a couple horror films today.

"Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees return to terrorize the teenagers of Elm Street. Only this time, they're out to get each other, too."

IMDB

This was the first Horror movie I have ever seen in my life. Coming back to it nowadays, it really isn't that bad. I've seen the main original Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th films. Freddy and Jason have got to be the most iconic slasher icons the film industry has ever known so if there were to be a crossover likes this, I'm glad it was them.

This crossover was really like a Nightmare on Elm Street guest starring Jason Vorhees rather than a shared custody of screen time and story. But I don't really mind that during the two big fight scenes between both characters. The film aslo tries to really hard to play off established lore and I respect the way they did it.

Overall, it's a decent experience. If they were to ever try this again, all they'd really have to do is make this same movie again but better. Maybe add extra fighting between them and make the story less complicated so that the victims I mean main characters don't over stay their welcome. Freddy vs Jason is such a great concept, a really fun idea, and this first iteration could've been much worse.

My Rating: ★★★★★★★★☆☆

"After a famous author is rescued from a car crash by a fan of his novels, he comes to realize that the care he is receiving is only the beginning of a nightmare of captivity and abuse."

IMDB

Misery is such a polarizing experience.

Firstly - Kathy Bates. Well deserved Oscar winning performance. She was absolutely crazy. Rent was due, man! Her performance was just so much fun to watch and she totally owned every second on screen & I enjoyed so much.

Secondly - I feel personally attacked. As a crazy fangirl myself, I totaly understood Annie's point of view. Like how many films or shows made us trhow a bedside table against a wall? Just me and Annie???

My Rating: ★★★★★★★☆☆☆

"A family determined to get their young daughter into the finals of a beauty pageant take a cross-country trip in their VW bus."

IMDB

Ending with a movie you can watch any time of year - I can't believe it took me so long to watch this movie.

Steve Carell and Abigail Breslin are two actors very much on my favorites list and they both were great in this. Actually, the entire cast received an ensemble award at the SAG Awards and very deservedly so. I felt so emotionally connected to the family as a whole.

Now I'm unsure what daily struggles rich people face, but it's definitely different from the daily struggles of the lower and middle classes. The weekend the family experienced was honestly an average weekend for a low or middle class family and that's probably why I enjoyed it so much. That adding on to a chaotic family road trip with each family member with a distinct personality and a set of problems unique to each other. The clash was well written. honestly the only film I can compare it to is a Vera Farmiga movie, I think it was burn your maps, that had that same chaotic family road trip vibe. But the vibe of that chaos was different.

This is a movie I recommend everyone to see at least once. It's definitely a feel good Oscar bait film that will make you laugh, cry, and/or both. It's left an effect on me and it's definitely going in my favorite movie rankings.

My Rating: ★★★★★★★★★★
