Ghibli Films - May Movie Club

Image
"When two girls move to the country to be near their ailing mother, they have adventures with the wondrous forest spirits who live nearby." - IMDB Totoro is honestly one of the greatest feel-good movies of all time. Of course Totoro himself is an icon and adorably designed, but the core of the story is all about the sisters. The whole family rides on positive vibes and energy. The dad does a lot to make sure the kids feel happy and comfortable given the situation. But that still doesn't stop the kids from feeling sad about missing their mom. Totoro was a friendly spirit that appeared to the kids when he was needed most and gave them the happy, magical adventure thy deserved. My Rating: ★★★★★★★★★☆ "A twenty-seven-year-old office worker travels to the countryside while reminiscing about her childhood in Tokyo." - IMDB Now we get into the Ghibli films I haven't seen before. I never really heard of Only Yesterday until I made the list for my marathon. Watching i

The Princess Diaries (2001)

"Mia Thermopolis has just found out that she is the heir apparent to the throne of Genovia. With her friends Lilly and Michael Moscovitz in tow, she tries to navigate through the rest of her sixteenth year." - IMDB After watching this movie for 20 years, I can honestly say it still makes me laugh so much. Pretty much every scene with Anne Hathaway, Julie Andrews, or Hector Elizondo, I find myself laughing hard. Some of my favorite scenes include the dinner scene and all the princess lessons. There are also lines here and there that get me every time too.  Another one of my favorite scenes is the dance scene with Clarisse & Joe. I know Andrews & Elizondo were the ones that came up with the idea of their character's relationship. A brilliant idea if you ask me because that scene was very heartwarming. I think both the characters and actors work well together and I was very happy to see this be part of the story line in the sequel. If you recall my recent Sound of Mu

Hunger Games - the Mockingjay Experience

"Katniss Everdeen is in District 13 after she shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta and a nation moved by her courage." - IMDB Alright folks. let's get the negative stuff over with. You & I both know how exhausting the love triangle can get. It's all Gale fault. As an individual character, he's a pretty solid, dependable dude. But his whing is irksome. Don't sit there and complain to Katniss about something you don't understand. You know how ruthless the Capitol is. Don't be biased and call Peeta a traitor. Peeta is a sweet cinnamon roll that needs to be nurtured and protected. And Katniss obviously needs him for sanity purposes. I've already mentioned in my last review about the whole survivors bond thing and Mockingjay really goes in deeper with this. Love triangle shmove triangle. Gale is literally awful. Mockingjay Part

Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)

"A cyborg, identical to the one who failed to kill Sarah Connor, must now protect her ten-year-old son John from a more advanced and powerful cyborg." - IMDB Firstly, I want to bring up my experience of the first film. I really didn't get too much out of it. For me, it just blended in with a lot of other 80s action and/or Sci Fi films I've seen. However, I was pretty terrified when the Terminator was walking around in his metal skeleton form. That was very creepy and very memorable. I did appreciate that story - the whole "humans create their own destruction" vibe that we see so much in Science Fiction. It was a solid film, I just didn't get attached to it. That being said, I watched Terminator 2 after and had a completely different experience. The sequel is so much better in every sense - it's deeper, edgier, more tense, more exciting. Fights are better. Graphics are so much better. It's fun. It's scary. It's perfect. I loved how Sarah
