Episode 1
Full transparency. I know the entire plot. I've spent several months in a safe Tomlette bubble on Instagram & have learned the entire plot along the way. This honestly made my first real watch through so much better & the length of the blog shows why.
Seeing Kendall in the very first episode knowing how his story ends is heart breaking. He was groomed by Logan, prepared by himself, his whole life dedicated to being the next CEO. We hear mentions of rehab and addiction issues. We see his situation with his kids and ex-wife. It was already such a bad start and every scene of his is heartbreaking.
The baseball game was a very important part of the episodes. They're all assholes. And that's all you need to know. Not a single character is meant to be likeable. They are all sociopathic narcissistic morally disgusting bitches. You know you've sold your soul when you can name a favorite character.
Tom & Gregg being a highlight from day 1 is wild. I can't believe their first scene is Tom joking about him and Gregg kissing. Did the writers know what they were doing?
In the pilot, we get a pretty solid glimpse of the brothers, but we only Shiv at the surface. She comes across as a normal person, seems like a decent sister & girlfriend, is emotional when Logan is down. She just seems like the least worst person there, ironically considering she is honestly one of the most emotionally cruel two faced bitch person around - or she becomes so at least.
Some pieces of the soundtrack in episode 1 are present through the series, all the way to the dang series finale. I can literally see the series finale scenes in my mind as the songs play and this somehow adds weight to these earlier scenes.
Season 1
Gregg & Tom are such leeches.
They are so alike in many ways. 2 socially awkward dudes trying to wiggle their way into the family narrative for money and status. Neither came from money. And low key everybody hates them.
The death pit scene was the beginning of the end. The blood pact with Gregg. The legal atrocity that pushes Tom to the top. These two became intertwined forever.
It's so interesting seeing Tom & Gregg both struggle with moral dilemmas while the Roy family does not. We precede to see them ignore their moral compass in order to get ahead & fit in with the family. They basically do the "if you can't beat them join them" and then they eventually beat them anyways - the two outsiders that were the laughing stocks of the family.
I hope no one was confused about the series finale. It was all written from the start bro.
It's hilarious to see Tom grow closer to Gregg as subtle tensions between him & Shiv rise as they approach their wedding. And Gregg helped Tom get a little respect from Logan when he said he was abusive lol. Hard for anyone to believe when he such a cartoon.
Let's talk about the press conference leak - He only told Gregg & Shiv, one told Gerri, Tom confronts Gregg, who denies the accusations - thus begins the downfall of Tom & Shiv & the rise the holy Tomlette. The genius in this is that Gregg was that one that told..... Yet Tom immediately trusted Gregg & felt sus towards Shiv. Ironically, she has yet to earn such suspicion other than the fact she comes from a family of privileged assholes. Gregg grew up out of all of that, so maybe that's why Tom instinctively trusted Gregg, whom he's only known for like 3 days - a judgement solely based on their upbringings.
And just like that.... It took 4 episodes for Gregg to be the most dangerous player in this game of thrones.
Shiv telling Gregg to not bring in the files Roman asked for is literally the start. Episode 2. It begins - Gregg being everyone's Gregg, Shiv two timing her brothers - This is it. That's the show.
I know I'm supposed to hate hate Shiv, especially through seasons 2 & 3, but I love her. And I don't know why. Maybe this validates Tom & why he sticks with her to the end. A toxic trait we both share I suppose.
Shiv is the master of faking it. Roman said as much at some point. The correct way to describe Shiv is "emotionally guarded." She pretends everything is fine. She refuses to show or feel her own emotions - having emotions is a weakness. She attempts to remain emotionally detached from everyone - which effectively begins to ruin her marriage before it even starts. Look at her parents. Look at her brothers. It doesn't take a genius to understand how she became this way.
Even in, what, episode 3, when she sees a disoriented Logan who says "I love you," Shiv is visibly upset when she realizes he wasn't really talking to her.
And also consider her pov when she starts fooling around with Nate - Tom wants her money & family status. Her political clients keep trying to use her for her connection with her father's news channel. How can she ever believe anyone wants her for her when Nate is the only one like "bro you're hawt, i'd want you." He's the only one that doesn't make her feel disappointed and he's easy for her to control.
Rome & Shiv have been on the same wave the whole time. In all of the first season, I can only think of one instance where she acted against him. They are siblings, besties, everything in between. Loved their jokes in the therapy episode. Like their so fucked and they know it.
Marcia is a bitch, she fits right in.
Connor is so funny to me. like he's so out of the family but is also Logan's son through and through. He also fits right in.
I always love it when Gerri is around. She's literally the smartest one in the company. She would've been a kickass CEO, so at least Tom keeps her in the inner circle when he steps up later.
Kendall & Roman running the company while Logan is down is basically what would've happened if Tom didn't win the way he did. "They're not serious people." Nepo babies are never given respect & they're constantly told why. Even by Logan himself. However, Kendall was at least actually trying & genuinely cared. There were several instances where he had good ideas & his interests were usually for what was best for the company.
The Vote of Confidence was major. Kendall had a point. He was right. It was heartbreaking. He struggled between loyalty & admiration of his father & the best interest of the company. The Vote was a tie & Roman was the tie breaker.... But Roman was too scared to vote against him...
Kendall lost...... and it was because of the "vote" of a sibling........
👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀
I love that season 1 had a Thanksgiving episode. We've already seen the disfunction of the family, but what's the point Thanksgiving if not to be entertained by family dysfunction. Logan's brother is here. Marcia's son is here. Willa is here. Roman is high af. It pretty much went down the way you'd expect.
The therapy episode - if you really wanna understand the characters, watch this episode. No one believes Logan's comments in the half-hearted therapy session. It was obviously for publicity. No one expected anything genuine from him. Shiv is mad at everyone, increasingly repulsed by Tom who is increasingly becoming afraid of her, & not a single person is healing from their trauma. Then here comes Kendall. 0 fucks to give. High af. Chaotic & insane.
Then we see Logan's scars and we know all we need to know...
It's all generational trauma. Logan was broken from his childhood trauma and this resulted in his raising of spoiled traumatized jerks. Also, Logan & Shiv are more alike then they realize. Emotional vulnerability is weakness. And neither ever want to be portrayed as weak.
The wedding... Sheesh. Logan only came because of publicity. he'd rather have his kids beg for him, which Shiv did not. We meet Caroline. It makes you wonder how different the Roy kids would have been if they had at least one parent that loved them. Shiv started putting so many at risk with the Cruises scandal information just to get even with her dad or something. Tom unhappy with his marriage on Day 0. Distrust amongst everyone has just increased tremendously since the pilot episode & it's just all on edge.
I definitely wanted to note Kendall saying "Shiv, maybe you wouldn't be the favorite if you gave the company to non family." Comments like that in the earliest episodes send me. Crazy how Kendall tried to sell the company outside the family episodes later within the same season. And then the way he is so against it when Logan wants to sell to Gojo 2 seasons later. It's all so twisted.
Everyone is fighting for money. Everyone is fighting for power. Everyone is fighting for control. Everyone is fighting for Logan's approval while also fighting to beat Logan at his game to be his equal or to be better than him. They're all at each other's throats. They all betray each other, mistrust each other, use & abuse each. And no one is winning. No one ever wins. Except Logan. And that's it. That's Succession.
We end the season with the car accident. A very heavy series of events to watch that just feels heartbreaking when Kendall returns to the party like nothing happened and dances with his kids. But then he is confronted later... and it's Logan who wins the day as he always does.
Logan fired Kendall. Kendall is depressed. gets back into drugs. Kendall goes with the server to acquire more drugs. Server dies. Logan knows. Logan offers protection and just like that Kendall is back in his arms. His #1 boy. Logan wins.
This pattern will continue as the clusterfuck that is the Roy family continues down a spiral of doom and depression.
Season 2
Kendall returns as Logan's obedient little boy because what other option does he have. "Oh how the mighty have fallen." Roman isn't wrong. The Fall of Kendall. The Return of Logan. This dude is far from his aneurism. This man has recovered & is striking the fear of God in everyone - and HE is God.
The ironyyyyyyy! Shiv & Tom had this plan. Shiv runs around with politics like she wants. Tom gets CEO. EZ.
Then Logan asks. The one thing Shiv ever wanted - his approval. Accepting his CEO offer was the closest she has ever gotten. She went from desiring to abandon the Roy legacy to jumping into the fight for the Iron Throne in 2 seconds. Because Daddy asked her to. Logan wins again. Shiv in his right hand. No longer fighting against him through Gil. His pieces have now been perfectly placed.
The consequences from this scene.... You feel it in Tom & Shiv's final moments in the series finale...
Quickly seeing Shiv evolve into the 2 faced bitch she is. I mean, she's even being shady with Roman. That's how you know she's getting tangled.
The way she announced that she was CEO to be, every member in the Roy family hated her & she felt that. Shiv panicked & knew her impulsive outburst pissed off Logan, which was worse than losing CEO, losing the deal, or angering her brothers. Tension between Shiv & literally everyone increased as "Shiv is not as smart she thinks she is" & continues to act as so.
"What does my dad think is my entire universe." The foundation of everything wrong with Shiv was declared by Shiv herself.
Shout out Shiv in the Dundee episode. She was such a a little shit stirrer & it made me laugh. It seemed to be working for a moment when they were all working together. Raya eventually left, but she would have left sooner if everyone didn't shrug off Shiv's personal vendetta.
Watching the kids in season 2 is so depressing.
- The manipulation is astronomical. Logan is running around with 3 carrots on a string & those children are pining.
- Each Roy kid is the same. Giving them too much power sucks the humanity out of them.
- They can argue anyone down except Logan. He always wins.
We already know how terrifying Logan can be. He slapped his grandson. Bitch slapped his own kid. I feel like we've heard stories about other beatings against Roman. He also holds a lot of power over a lot of people, knows their weakness, and knows how to use that against them. Caroline, on the other hand, is just an absent mother. Not really the best balance to Logan. The way Kendall went to her for help and she literally abandoned him immediately after is so heartbreaking. She just shows no signs of empathy. I can imagine she involved the kids in the divorce somehow - like trying to use them in a competition against Logan - you know how those kinds of divorces can be. However it ended, I'm sure it wasn't pretty and fun only to Connor.
Tom walks into ATN a whole new man. He's ready to play the game. Even better, being at the top of ATN placed him amongst the big leagues. He is starting to get hands on up close experience in the true entanglements of Waystar. Shiv helped push his placement, & unknowingly ironically placed him on the path to taking down the family.
Tom is still a buffoon. His performance in the trial proved as much. Although, he was getting asked tough and irrelevant questions and I genuinely feel bad for him as he returns to the board room on the brink of a panic attack. Add this to the list of incidents that pushes Tom to the top.
Gregg was given a way out. I can't for the life of me explain exactly why he decided to stay. Honestly it could just be that he is a real Roy after all. He's been rising the ranks with Tom, maybe that taste of success was enough. He claims he's loyal to Logan but is Gregg loyal to anyone? It's honestly so ironic how Gregg is the one that Tom trusts the most but Gregg is literally such snake. He's at Kendall's side in the end with the remaining papers he was supposed to destroy with Tom. This is not the first time Gregg betrayed Tom either, nor the last.
Season 2 is the season when the writers were like "hmmm yeah Tom & Gregg are on to something." Some amazing moments and scenes! That entire Panic Room episode. "Your principles?!?" The boar on the floor incident. "You're asking about the moral character of a man named Ratfucker Sam?" "We here for you." "But they're not, in fact, receipts."
Always remember....
You can't make a Tomlette without breaking some Greggs.
"I would ask that you would take care of me because if Dad didn't need me, I don't know what I'd be for." That's Kendall Roy. That's all that Kendall Roy is.
Connor Roy was interested in politics at a very young age.
The Hungary Retreat - I mean, this was sort of iconic. Boar on the floor.... Hilarious & intense all at once. "I will win." Brian's line delivery there shook us all to the core. That's Logan Roy. The Tomlette is really going down together on this burning ship, whether Gregg likes it or not. Heartbreaking to see Tom come home humiliated & exhausted only to be devastated when Shiv insinuates that she had an affair.
The Safe Room - the most chaotic episode. There's just a lot going on here. And so many iconic lines and moments that I knew about before but had no idea it was in this episode. Roman doing the management program & cussing people out in the turkey costume. Kendall's iconic shots of him being super depressed on that balcony... Shiv's first day in the office. "He's stealing vape fluid? He can just buy the entire industry." Connor going to Mo's funeral, dropping the Lester lore. Lester's wife is very sad & Connor Roy was interested in politics at a very young age.
The Safe Room ultimately belonged to our golden bois. Tom interviewing Ravenhead. Tom & Gregg panicking after the shooting. Tom was like "They're coming after me" while it was a suicide lmao. "Gregg, latte me!" "Nazis are terrible right?" "A small person can fit through there - an attack child." "Are you asking if you can blackmail me?" The whole water bottle scene. Tom & Gregg showed why they were everyone's favorite characters in this episode.
Dinner with the Pierces - OMG every character & every person watching the show knows that nobody likes anybody. So yeah... That tension was easy to feel during that whole dinner scene. And... Sooooo.... What happened? Was that Logan's strategy to win or did he refuse to follow the deal just to not announce Shiv as CEO? Because I think I know what Shiv believes.
Also also Kendall's evening with Naomi essentially won the Pierce deal & Kendall knows this - saying this because of his behavior in the next episodes. Then the following episode, Shiv is given multiple opportunities to step up & is either reluctant or just simply refuses. On top of that, tension between the siblings is building. Really expected the Roy sibling interview to go horribly wrong. I mean.... I didn't... But to be fair, the day itself was a disaster.
First of all, a comedian literally ruined the Pierce deal lmao, not the kids.
Second of all.... Logan bitch slapped Roman. Kendall got defensive. Tom looked terrified. It was very intense & is a good 2 minute scene to break down each character, their dynamics, reactions.
It's been heavily implied that Roman has always been at the worst end of Logan's anger over the years. Verbal and occasionally physical abuse toward him is not shocking for anyone to witness. The way Roman tried to play it down like it was no big deal says speaks volumes to his role as an abuse victim.
Shiv's reaction wasn't really shown but she looked a little uncomfortable. She should be - Roman got hit on her behalf because Logan would rather take out his anger on him rather than get angry at his best girl. Kendall was right there though. His initial reaction is to protect him when the strike happened. It was a rare moment where Kendall stood up to his father and would've thrown hands if he had to for his brother. Gerri was the main voice to calm Logan down. She's been around for decades and is always the voice of reason in Logan's ears. She knows how to handle him.
Tom was just terrified. He did not come from an abusive family. The idea that a parent could beat his own child is unfathomable to him. He's also the only one completely mortified as if this is not the first time this has happened. Everyone is just trying to stop the situation from escalating, not standing still in shock. Is it really that normal? this is the family Tom has been working soooo hard to be integrated in, and the family he is later willing to go to jail for. This is a key moment for later when Tom begins to question "are they worth it?"
When Logan returns to his hometown, Logan gets all nostalgic & I absolutely love these little glimpses to Logan's background. I swear, if they did like a prequel show or movie about him, I'd eat that up. The Godfather did that right? Same energy. But those glimpses add so much dimension to his character. He's a monster, but he wasn't always. No one is born evil.
Honestly the Dundee episode..... One of my favorite episodes so far. It just sort of had everything. I don't know, but it's an episode that was so memorable to me.... Maybe it was Kendall's rap....
After trying push away & hide from the cruises scandal, the unavoidable consequences are quite literally here to sink the ship. This whole situation has series wide consequences.
Hugo volunteering Gerri & Tom to testify.... Even with the future dream team, it was a shit storm. Incredible entertainment. Tom & Greg's testimonies are literally in the top 3 most iconic moments in the entire series.
This was such a good episode for the kids. Kendall took the stand & stood his ground firmly. Shiv successfully talked down the victim. Roman just chillin as a hostage while successfully nabbing a deal - falls through but not because of him. It's interesting how great the family works together when they're... You know... Together.
Ending the season with the death cruise. Shout out to Gerri when they started suggesting her. She carries the company on her shoulders & has been around for decades. She will not be taking shit from anyone.
Tom on the beach is probably the most honest he's been to Shiv pretty much in the series so far. He's open and honest about his feelings. He condemns her for her stupid open relationship idea that she brought up on their wedding night. He says he's unhappy, and Shiv is, of course, very hard to read. Shiv is definitely a "if you can't handle me then leave" kind of person - Tom is not going anywhere. "I tried playing with you & you broke." That will always be the difference between Tom & people like Nate.
It's curious. Shiv felt bad for what Tom said. But does she feel bad for Tom or feel bad because she's an awful person? Shiv convinced Logan to not use Tom as the scapegoat. But did she do that because she wants to protect Tom or is that her way of trying to redeem herself from making Tom so unhappy? I could honestly say both for each question.
Season 2 started and ended with a Kendall press conference.... They are not the same.
Kendall willingly agreed to be the face of the scandal because daddy asked. But when Logan was honest with Kendall about whether or not he would be a good CEO... This is exactly what happens to Tom a season later. You push and push and push and soon they will fall. Logan pushing Kendall. Shiv pushing Tom. At some point, the dog will bite back, and we just saw Kendall bite.
Tom and Gregg are screwed. Shiv & Roman are scared. And Logan...... a proud father.
Season 3
I think Kendall just killed Logan.
Logan is losing his grasp of control. Dealing with the law, fighting against Kendall, waiting for his other kids to stab him in the back. His mental & physical health begins to deteriorate half way through the season. Meanwhile, Kendall is riding the tsunami that is his ego & it really starts to drown out his valid motives as the situation continues.
I loved Kendall's pitch to the siblings. They fear their father. They hate their father. Kendall knows this. They might've been like f you ken but neither of them could say they weren't the least bit interested, dare I say they agreed with him. But would the path of escape & freedom be enough to minimize the overwhelming powerful force that is Logan Roy?
It's interesting that the idea of Kendall "overseeing" his siblings always seems to be the repulsive factor that turns them away every time. That's been clear since he first lightly offered the idea in season 1 episode 1.
It's a totally different story when Kendall comes to Tom later in the season. He's just "a humble servant." But it's not about who he's serving. He's spent all season at the high table. He's just too smart to know that Logan always wins, & he's not going to serve the losing side. He's servile, but also ambitious. He is just trying to survive by clinging to the highest bidder. Kendall would never get higher than Logan.
"I've seen you get fucked. And I haven't seen Logan get fucked once."
Tom being in the midst of the storm is the very reason he wins. He's actually on the same trajectory as Kendall. But while Kendall's season 2 finale betrayal leads to him losing everything in the season 3 finale, Tom's season 3 finale betrayal leads to him winning everything in the season 4 finale.
Tom offering to go to jail, Shiv supported the drunk idea, Logan respected him for it - TURNING POINT
Shiv occasionally looks like she genuinely feels for Tom, courtesy of Sarah Snook. But in those moments, Tom looks like he doesn't feel a lot of support or reassurance from her, courtesy of Matthew MacFadyen. Tom has been given so much evidence that she's not one to be trusted & Shiv has become more & more focused on her father & her position in the company to even try to be an emotionally available wife.
Here's the thing about Shiv you really start to see clearly this season. Only daughter. A well known small fish in men dominated industries. Tom is her rock. He's the #1 fan. Her most consistent support. When the rest of the world is against her, he's meant to be the one person who is with her. She craves validation. She wants it from the world. Especially wants it from her father. But when there's no one else, there's at least Tom right? Because Tom is who he is, she never expected him to faulter. So when he is pushed over the edge & begins let loose of her grip, that's when she starts to get upset & tries to bully him back in line - which only makes it worse.
There have been multiple instances in the last couple seasons when Shiv talked about her position as CEO. Tom always asked "where would I fit in" and Shiv always gave the wishy washy answer "oh we'll figure it out." He asked again when the siblings ganged up against their father - same answer. Putting that together with the prison situation and then the whole "pillow talk" disaster, he knew that this was too big of a situation and that Shiv would not have his back once things blow up. In this moment, his ambition was stronger than his loyalty - loyalty that had been fading all of season 3. So while it was the first time Roman acted against his father, it was also the first time Tom acted against his wife.
Applaud Matthew MacFadyen right now. In episode 6, after Tom's conversation with Kendall. Tom sees Gregg being celebrated for suing green peace. He returns to the room where his disloyal wife helps her father "choose the next president." Cuz corrupt media. Matthew's face as he walks down the hallway. I can visibly see his thoughts. Is this family really worth it? The camera follows him from the front and switches to a shot from his back. Significant because Logan in the theme sequence is always shown from behind. One of the last shots of Tom ever in the series is the same angle. The CEO money shot.
He calls Gregg out for his "fascist party" from the night before. Like he literally said "Nazis are terrible right?" a season ago & now suddenly he has morals? Yes. Because there's been a shift within his character in this very episode. There's been 2 and half season of build up and it's starting to be felt.
Episode 7 lol. Tom learns he's free of prison. He's like "gotta go to the little boy's room" & ends up in Gregg's office. That was such an iconic scene. His reaction and then the kiss. omg they knew what they were doing.
Once again, Nero & Sporus are everyone's favorite part of the show. That scene was wild by the way.
Seriously! How does Tom trust Gregg as much as he does? Gregg has backstabbed him once every season when it mattered the most lol. But in the subtextual love triangle, Tom trusts him more than Shiv. The lesser of two evils. Tom has also been drifting away from Shiv while Tom & Gregg get closer. This leads to Tom's offer in the end. Boo souls. Gregg realizes that despite throwing him around as an underling, Tom has never really done anything that bad. He was willing to take Gregg's crimes for free even though Gregg's alliance with Kendall kinda got him in that position. Meanwhile Kendall was ready to throw him to the wolves once Gregg switched sides.
"I got little Greggy." Bro Gregg is now openly acknowledged as an asset & it's so funny to me.
"Is Gregg necessary?" Yes. Yes he is
"Hey Gregg! The snitch bitch." Lmao something like that.
Roman is a chaotic moron. But while Shiv is not as smart as she thinks she is, Roman is smarter than everyone thinks he is. Could he have been CEO? Maybe? But business is a language he understands.
I am saying again. I absolutely love Shiv & Roman. Like even when Roman is like, you suck, that's still his sister. She's a bitch but that's his bitch. And that's her homie Romie. They have always been the closest of the siblings. Banter is their love language. During instances when they had to make a choice, I've noticed both come to decisions based on what the other decides.
Roman's scene with the interviewer trying to ask about fond memories & relationship qualities with dad & Roman had nothing - this show is so depressing.
Shiv gets mad when people don't involve her or tell her everything. She easily retaliates when Logan doesn't respect her or give her what she wants. She's so entitled. People have always used her because of who her dad is which annoys her but she also extorts this if she thinks it'll help her get ahead. Her loyalty has has conditions. She loves you unless you disappoint her or betray her.
Somehow with this new "President" title, Shiv begins to lose more respect. She's struggling to keep control of Tom. No one in the company likes her. She's one mistake away from losing her father's respect - everyone always is. Loss of control makes her angry & stupid. She always seems to make things worse when she tries to fix things.
Her conversation with her mom is so interesting. We only see the mom like once a season, but the writers always want to make it clear that she's just as horrible as anyone else. Caroline comes across as a defeated individual as she's been losing to Logan for a very long time. Her comments about having kids makes me wonder if she ever thought of her children as her children or just property of Logan.
While Kendall and Roman want to be like their dad, I always felt like Shiv was trying to be better than their dad - both parents actually. She tried to get into politics instead of the company and then when she was actually in the company, she was always the only one coming up with ideas that kinda went against Logan's. She wanted to prove she could be a better CEO with her decisions. Then Caroline says she should have never had kids and suddenly Shiv tells Tom she wants to have a baby. As if she's prepared to prove that she can be a better mom than her own.
I know Gregg is the comedic relief of choice, but dude. Connor. Like why is he here. He makes me laugh the most. We already know these people are disconnected from reality, but Connor is just in his own realm entirely.
Episode 3. Tom makes the offer to go to jail for Logan. Logan will remember Tom's loyalty... But Tom will remember that Shiv supported the idea. Kendall sabotaged Shiv's first speech as president so she turned around with a public statement jabbing at his addiction issues. Gregg's new office is a shabby mail room. Then the FBI storms the building. Everyone sort of loses this episode.
Episode 5 was the chaotic shareholder meeting episode. You know, it was kinda sad seeing Logan lose his freaking mind. The moment Kendall showed up - omg Shiv's reaction then the pan over to Kendall made me laugh too hard. And then Roman with no context was like "it's an imaginary cat" amidst the delusional chaos. Then the siblings telling him to f off. Next scene, Gregg is off in the background getting legal advice on how to lovingly sue his grandpa. Bootleg Logan handled a conversation with the President. Shiv snagging the Sandy deal while trying to get her own sneaky chair in the board. Just so much going on.
Kendall's birthday - Mattson enters the chat. The way he just asked "when will your dad die" was wild. Really set the tone for what this character is bringing to the table. The party was a disaster. Rome got drunk, Tom I guess got high, Ken got depressed, Shiv ended up pissed at everyone. But hey, Gregg got a date.
"You won because you are corrupt & so is the world." What a line. But isn't that what being the 1% is all about?
Another wedding episode.
I loved how Gerri was giving an update about what kahoots Logan was up to but when Gregg's name came out, they were all like OH real shit. Again, that makes me laugh.
When it's realized that the Gojo deal may be happening, the siblings unite for the first time ever. I know it was a very raw moment when Kendall broke down and admitted what happened at Shiv's wedding. I just felt like Shiv & Roman were not as connected as the audience probably was. The Roys' have always been so disconnected - from the world, reality, from relationships, from each other. They were like "oh we support you and we're here for you, but let's get to our next line of business." Roman straight up looked inconvenienced. Shiv just had no idea what to say because she doesn't understand how to emotionally be there for someone like this.
Either way, the siblings march forward. Unified though surely conditionally as it is the Roys' we're talking about. It was a very intense scene - I mean every scene with Logan is intense. My heart specifically broke for Roman. Kendall went in already stuck in a lose-lose anyways, Shiv wants her money & power, but Roman just wanted to be accepted by his dad. Out of the 3, Roman has been the closest this whole time. Just in terms with screen time alone, Logan has had more scenes with Roman than any of the other kids. Roman has been working along the high table since day 1. Roman was the closest to receiving Logan's respect. Roman felt like he was betraying Logan just as much as he felt that Logan was betraying him - a mutual betrayal if you will.
And for the first time, Roman didn't listen to dad.
Tom's warning gave Logan the chance to reach Caroline first to make sure that the kids had no leverage against him. Between this and offering to go to jail, Tom has finally solidified high respect from Logan. And thus we see the beginning of the end.
Even if he was skirting around the idea, I think it was always his intention to see one of the kids as his successor - literally the title of the show. But over the seasons, he's just been disappointed by them time & time again. It's honestly so easy for him to entertain this buyout deal when his original plan was under such a large label of incompetence.
"Make your own fucking pile." Entitlement is over. The kids are cut out. Suddenly, being in Logan's good graces no longer matters when their own fortune and status are at risk. This is a great assessment on the priorities of entitled rich children who were always given everything who now have to figure out how to survive in the real world. The REAL world - not Logan's world. And that.... will be the final season.
My Rating: ★★★★★★★★★★
