JULY WATCH PARTY - Natural Born Killers (1994), A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001), Midori-ko (2010)
"Two victims of traumatized childhoods become lovers and psychopathic serial murderers irresponsibly glorified by the mass media."

What the heck.
Yeah this was an experience. No surprise Quentin Tarantino was in the writers room. The movie was giving Tarantino vibes even if he only wrote the story. The cinematography and editng were crazy. Paired with the lighting and action, this movie was a visual feast. I watched this movie for Woody Harrelson, and stayed for Australian Robert Doweny Jr. This movie was early in both of their careers and they were massive stand outs. I loved this movie more than I thought I would and I low key ship Mickey & Mallory.

"A highly advanced robotic boy longs to become "real" so that he can regain the love of his human mother."

AI is definitely one of thos movies you have ot see at least once in your life if you're at all into Science Fiction, or even the artificial life niche. This is one of those stories that challenges the idea that AI could ever be capable of having genuine emotion. Can man recreate the perfect man with technology? Will AI ever actually be so sophistacted that we see Androids like the ones in Blade runner, Detroit Become Human, or in this film?
Always love seeing any Haley Joel Osment content. He was one of those talented child actors that just understood the assignmnet - and of course it's always fun to catch snippet's of Sora's voice whenever possible. (Kingdom Hearts fans are actually this desperate for kh content). This is also top 3 Jude Law performance ever for me. The way he portrays the robot with flare was os perfect. he little mannerisms and emotionless eyes paired with the robots suave charism made for an interesting character and brilliant performance.

"A woman strives to engineer a dream-food that can put a stop to the famine that has lain waste to a dystopian, near future Tokyo."

Sooooooo this is an anime film that I guess is about veganism? I knew that basics going in but I honestly couldn't explain in detail. I was honestly so lost the entire time. I was able to find this on YouTube - which is a good place for it because this would definitely be the type of thing you's find during a 3am YouTube rabbit hole that leads you to all the obscure content on the website, like salad fingers.
I still recommend the heck out of Midori-ko anyways. When you hear the word "anime" a lot of people jump to images from Naruto or something. But the art style and story of this film is so outside anime norms, you don't even have to be an anime fan to be interested in it. It's a 50 minute visual feast regardless of whether you can follow the story or not. Check out this unique experience at least once. And respect the artist and writer that had a vision and went for it.
