Tim Burton

Tim Burton is a film director that is responsible for creating a safe space in his films for all the weird, emo, outcast folks, like myself, and is a celebrated icon for these traits. His unique art style is very recognizable. With the big eyes, crooked angles, and dark color scheme. His original stories seem to often included characters the are outsiders that are different from everyone else, like Edward Scissorhands or Lydia Deetz. Even stories that are not his own often include quirky characters that may be seen as odd, like Ichabod Crane or Willy Wonka.

Tim Burton uses a lot of the same actors frequently in his movies. This, of course, includes Johnny Depp & Helena Bonham Carter. Some other actors he's worked with multiple times include Christopher Lee, Winona Ryder, Eva Green, Danny DeVito, Michael Keaton, & Jeffrey Jones. In the crew side of things, Coleen Atwood has been Costume Designer for 12 of his films. And what even is a Tim Burton movie without a score by Danny Elfman, who has composed for all but three of Burton's films.

My favorite movie would have to be Sweeney Todd. It was just perfectly casted and it's just wild that this was a musical on Broadway to begin with. Every Burton film with Depp is a winner for me no matter what, even Willy Wonka... (only Tim can grab Johnny tightly and raise him from perdition, Tim, please save his career) Dark Shadows is actually funnier than I remember. I also love that Alice in Wonderland was more of a sequel than a remake, that was a film I've enjoyed very much since it's initial release. I also happily celebrate Nightmare Before Christmas every year and worship Jack Skellington for the Halloween God that he is. And of course Beetlejuice is a classic. That's the film that not only kickstarted Winona's career, but also cemented Ryder as the ultimate idol for emo girls for generations.

Tim Burton should be celebrated for the excellent work he's done over the years. From Beetlejuice to Dumbo, there isn't a Burton movie I haven't enjoyed. Some are obviously better than others. But one thing is for certain - Tim Burton knows how to make a good movie.
