Kingdom Hearts (2002)

Kingdom Hearts is celebrating it's 20th anniversary. As someone who was raised by a Disney nerd, it was only natural for me to be drawn to Kingdom Hearts, and this series stands on its own as one of my favorite video game franchises of all time. In celebration of the game that started it all, I'm breaking down this first installment to give it all the love and praise it deserves.  The Awakening Right off the bat, this game kicks off hard to a great start as little Haley Joel Osment's voice segways us into a beautiful cinematic opening with Utada Hikari's Simple & Clean blaring in our ears. Want the definition of nostalgia? There it is. Because of the Disney Princesses in the Chamber of Awakening & the first appearance of Final Fantasy characters, the game is quickly established as the Disney-FF crossover that it was advertised to be. This is also where the tutorial takes place, so I'll quickly state my opinion on gameplay (1.5 final mix for the PS4 specifica

Breaking Bad (2008-2013)

Image
"A high school chemistry teacher diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer turns to manufacturing and selling methamphetamine in order to secure his family's future." - IMDB For years and years and years and years and years I've been told this was one of the greatest shows of all time. And now, here I am seeing what all the big fuss is about. (Ps I wrote my thoughts between seasons as I binged the series. This review was written "live" so to speak as a documentation of my journey.) Season 1 Of course Season 1 had to act as the origin story to the dynamic duo that is Walter White & Jesse Pinkman. A man facing death at the hands of cancer adds to his already mess of a life by breaking bad in the meth business; and a young man who has already made a string of bad choices and is stuck in the drug dealing business just trying to survive. I'm very excited to see how these two characters develop over time. Specifically talking about Walter, his story goes deep

Breaking Bad - Season 5, Episode 14

Sometimes a show just has that one episode that stands out. That one episode that defines why the show is so great. Breaking Bad definitely has its fair share of stand out episodes . If you were to check out Breaking Bad on IMDB, there are currently 3 episodes ranked 9.9/10 stars. 2 of them being from season 5, and one of them being the one that I must talk about today - Ozymandias. Act 1 The episode starts off with a throw back to Walt & Jesse's first ever cook together before Walt really compromised all his morality - before Heisenberg was created. The scene transitions to the current events - which happens to be the fall of Heisenberg. The episode brilliantly starts off reminding us not just how far Walt has come, but also how Jesse & Skylar were effected by Walt's actions. And now Hank is suffering those consequences in the worst way possible.  This was another thing established all the way in the pilot. Hank is a DEA agent; there was no way Walter would've got

Psycho (1960)

"A Phoenix secretary embezzles $40,000 from her employer's client, goes on the run, and checks into a remote motel run by a young man under the domination of his mother." - IMDB Alfred Hitchcock is the father of suspense. Psycho is probably his most popular film and for good reason. He knows how to manipulate the emotions of the audience and knows how to build tension through every scene. Most people will recognize the main theme and the iconic scene it's used most famously for. You want a classic thriller horror film, Psycho is where it's at. The most fascinating conflict in the film is Norman vs Mother. As the psychologist explains in the end, whenever Norman encounters a woman he was attracted to, Mother would awaken and feel jealous. It’s implied that Marion was not the first to be murdered by Mother. It’s interesting to see the aftermath of what was probably a series of traumatic experiences throughout Norman’s life enhanced by his isolation. As Norman Bates

The Huger Games (2012)

"Katniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her younger sister's place in the Hunger Games: a televised competition in which two teenagers from each of the twelve Districts of Panem are chosen at random to fight to the death." - IMDB Just going to jump into the philosophy real quick. The message the movie had about how far humanity will go with hate and cruelty was so empowering. The whole idea of the Hunger Games shows that in dire moments, humans will do anything to survive, including a child killing a child. The first book/movie sets the environment and feelings of a world that could easily be our own someday (maybe not exactly), while the rest of the series is this epic rebellion against a dystopian dictatorship. This first installment does so well establishing the cultures of the districts versus the capitol. And the scenes with President Snow give insight on what corrupt leaders of power will do to to maintain control and to paint a façade that how things are are how they
