Like many at the beginning of the 2010's decade, I was fully in the Zombie Apocalypse scene. I loved watching Zombie movies with my high school friends and we all had our apocalypse plans ready to go. Walking Dead of course was all the rage. But to me, nothing stood out more than Zombieland. It was a favorite for me and my friends. I can't even count how many times I've watched it in the last 10 years. It stands as not only my favorite Zombie flick, but one of my favorite movies of all time.
It really boils down to the cast & characters. With only 4 main characters taking up 98% of screen time, it's really hard to not grow attached to the forming dysfunctional family. Emma Stone as Wichita is great and I have always been such a big fan of Abagail Breslin who plays Little Rock. Obviously the stars are truly Woody Harrelson & Jesse Eisenberg as Tallahassee & Columbus. Most moments that make me laugh involve one or both of them. They're on screen chemistry make all their comedic moments stand out. And there are 3 other movies with these two being comedic geniuses together. Harrelson & Eisenberg are the dynamic duo that I don't think people talk about enough.
What really drives the nostalgia factor home for me is the final rule "Enjoy the little things." That's the true theme of this entire movie. Yeah, it's a dumb comedy movie about the zombie apocalypse. And this fictional America is just absolutely destroyed. But here are these characters just casually surviving, even having a good time. I have yet to get tired of the film with it's wacky violence & random comedic moments. The cast really brings it together and the film is just a good time. Don't take it seriously & "enjoy the little things" and maybe you can enjoy this cult classic too.
My Rating: ★★★★★★★★★★
