HAV PHOTOS - December Selections

Image
In college, I took a black and white film photography class. Boy oh boy film surely made me appreciate the ease of digital photography. Though I am very proud of some of the photographs I took during this time. Black and white is such a vibe on its own.   Follow HAV Media! ( literally every link ever )

INTRODUCING HAV PHOTOS

Image
As a celebration of 4 years of this blog, thought I'd introduce a new blog series! Hollis Films has hosted my blog where I write about my experience of every show & movie I need to talk about - the Friendly Fangirl Podcast is basically an extension of this. HAV Movies hosts my Portfolio YouTube page - as editing is my career goal. However, I currently do not have any outlet for my photography. I was 2 classes away from a Photography certificate. I wasn't really going for it, but it was an opportunity to get into casual photography. I have since taken and edited hundreds of photos and I'd really like to show off my work. I'll go ahead and brag - I've taken some pretty awesome shots 🤣 So here is the first chapter. I have also launched the HAV Media Instagram page - be sure to follow that!  Follow HAV Media! Infinity Train (2019)

Image
"Various people get trapped on a mysterious train with an endless number of cars, each one being its own universe, and they must resolve their psychological trauma and emotional issues in order to get home in this animated anthology series." - IMDB   Many many moons ago, one of my favorite youtubers, Skywardwing , made a video about the pilot short for Infinity Train. I feel like the show was just getting picked up, but between Sky’s hype, Ashley Johnson’s voice acting, and the interest I piqued from the actual short itself, I was kind of sold and put the show on my list. Infinity Train ended up lasting a few seasons, whether it was canceled, concluded, or both. I finally got to it so here’s my review of Infinity Train and why you should watch the show for yourself.  Season 1 The first real episode gave me all the feels. I don’t know, I just felt like I was on the cusp of greatness. We got a real beginning for Tulip and was introduced to One One - One One is like a dual perso...

NOVEMBER WATCH PARTY - Freddy vs Jason (2003), Misery (1990), Little Miss Sunshine (2006)

Image
A little late to the Halloween hype train as I've got a couple horror films today. "Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees return to terrorize the teenagers of Elm Street. Only this time, they're out to get each other, too." -  IMDB   This was the first Horror movie I have ever seen in my life. Coming back to it nowadays, it really isn't that bad. I've seen the main original Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th films. Freddy and Jason have got to be the most iconic slasher icons the film industry has ever known so if there were to be a crossover likes this, I'm glad it was them.  This crossover was really like a Nightmare on Elm Street guest starring Jason Vorhees rather than a shared custody of screen time and story. But I don't really mind that during the two big fight scenes between both characters. The film aslo tries to really hard to play off established lore and I respect the way they did it. Overall, it's a decent experience. If they were...

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Image
"The legendary tale of a barber who returns from wrongful imprisonment to 1840s London, bent on revenge for the rape and death of his wife, and resumes his trade while forming a sinister partnership with his fellow tenant, Mrs. Lovett." - IMDB   I don't think I can perfectly quantify the love I have for this film. The musical itself is insane on it's own - Tim Burton brought in Johnny Depp, Alan Rickman, Jamie Campbell Bower, Timothy Spall, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Helena Bonham Carter and made the greatest adaption to a musical ever. This is a must see. Incredible and insane experience. Thank you Sondheim. Thank you Burton. Gods bless Johnny Depp. There was a Barber and his wife... I'm also so hyped and happy to watch this movie and I get to excited about the cast and the songs. I totally forget how truly depressing and effed up the story actually is. This man with power ruins a family for no reason other than his own lust. He imprisons a man because he can, drives...

Corpse Bride (2005)

Image
"When a shy groom practices his wedding vows in the inadvertent presence of a deceased young woman, she rises from the grave assuming he has married her." - IMDB Being Tim Burton's 2nd animated film, it's definitely flooded with Burton's unique art style paired with the stop motion animation that isn't seen all the time. Something that sets it apart from Burton's iconic Nightmare Before Christmas is the coloring. Corpse Bride utilizes a bit more fluorescent colors compared to the darker color scale from his previous animated movie. A negative about this movie is it's attempt to be a musical. The songs were not too memorable and it's hard to beat the quality from Nightmare Before Christmas . But the highlight of the film for me hands down is the musical score. That, I would say, is the one thing better than it's predecessor. Victor's piano song, which plays as the main theme throughout the movie, is one of my favorite pieces of music of all ...

LOST - 20 Years of Dharma & their BS - Full Review

Image
"The survivors of a plane crash are forced to work together in order to survive on a seemingly deserted tropical island." -  IMDB Season 1 I was very young when Lost was making its way as cultural phenomenon. The only thing I really remember from it was the airplane crash premise & the pop culture icon, Jorge Garcia. I have since watched  Once Upon a Time  &  Bates Motel  - two shows that I very much obsessed over within the last couple years. I know very well that those same writers, producers, & the creators were top people in making Lost & I recognized their names every time when Lost rolled their opening credits. Given their reputation, I had to move Lost up my watch list. I would've watched it eventually, but I had to jump in sooner given how much I enjoyed their other shows. I knew this was a show about a bunch of people stranded on an Island, but no one said anything about this supernatural creature hiding in the jungle whispering words in...

The Harry Potter Experience

Image
With all movies covered on my blog, I thought I'd give a deep dive into the Wizarding World and share my passion on the franchise that means the most to me. The Books “Mr. and Mrs. Dursley of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much.” I have read the books 3 times in full and have spent months considering a 4th read through now that Hogwarts Legacy has helped me memorize the Hogwarts map lol. While the movies do a decent job telling the bigger picture, the books hold all the little moments that immersed us more than the movies ever could. I really don't know how to articulate how magical reading the series is, especially if it's your first time. Nights in the common room, visits to Hagrid's, summers at the Burrow, the Quidditch World Cup, the entire Crouch family history, Voldemort's full history, Peeves, and so much more is in store if read the books. The Movies   What else can I say that I haven't said a...
