E.T.

"A troubled child summons the courage to help a friendly alien escape Earth and return to his home world."

- IMDB

There are plenty of sci fi films out there about deadly alien invasions, but there aren't too many stories about a friendly alien friend coming to town. This is how the plot of ET was able to stand out amongst other alien movies. ET is definitely one of the top wholesome, go-to feel-good movies in all of cinematic history. Everyone should see this film at least once. ET just has the whole package.

This Spielberg film, with score by John Williams, follows a trio of children as they befriend this little alien left behind from his family. There's a story of love & friendship as a special bond develops between Elliott and ET as they become psychically linked. There's suspense as the government scientists hunt down ET in the shadows. There's drama as generations of children have been emotionally scarred by ET's "death" for over 40 years. There's a sense of wonder as ET reveals more of his powers through the film. That iconic scene when ET and Elliott fly in the sky with the moon in the background and the main theme blaring in our ears will never not be cool.

This is a film everyone can enjoy. Whether it be children or adults, I think everyone can admit this to be 80's culture at it's finest. I loved how the film was shot chronologically. It really did help the on screen emotion from the children feel very raw. All actors did a good job and the story is such a timeless tale. The design of ET is quirky and fits with the vibe of the film. And there's no other alien species quite like him.

My Rating: ★★★★★★★☆☆☆
